The Beginning

Countless eons. The rise and fall of kingdoms and empires. Species evolving from nothing, flourishing, then extinct, then forgotten. The birth and death of cultures, of languages, of nations, more wars and times of peace than could be contained in a thousand libraries. Every second guided by the firm, gentle hand of the Gods.

This is the world that would see the elves weave their floating hives to straddle the deep canopies of the forests and skim the still waters; it would watch as the dwarves tunneled ever deeper into the earth, transforming mountains into hollowed, labyrinthine fortresses in their ceaseless search for underground treasures; it would witness the ever-expanding empires of the humans, their massive cities of timber and stone spreading like wild moss across the fields. And after untold millenia of strife, this is the world that would see the high races begin to bridge the gaps between their peoples, ushering in a golden age of cultural exchange, of art, of technology – but most importantly, a golden age of magic. 

And one thousand years ago, this is the world that came to an end. 

Now, the relics of the old world – its treasures, its knowledge, its long-buried cities – are sought tirelessly by those hoping to regain some fraction of the glory from the time before the Collapse. The greatest of these – known only as the Opus – has lain shattered and dormant for a millennium, its fragments scattered to the winds, impossible to find, impossible to claim. And yet, rumors have begun to stir in recent months, rumblings of a way to truly claim this most mysterious of treasures, as well as the power that lies within…
